When is the best time to buy a boat in the Venice area for the best deal? New or gently used, Any suggestions on where to look? Looking for a 18' deck boat or bow rider.

It's never a good time to buy a boat.

Any time you want to look at your bank account and say "Hey, I dont mind if this starts to dwindle down to nothing because of the gas, insurance, docking, repairs, and maintenance" -- Then go for it.

but seriously folks, you need to figure out what you're going to use the boat and where, since many of the waters around are navigable only by boats with shallow drafts, some have sorta special purposes, such as bass boats, some are meant for lovely bikini clad women to sunbathe in, and some people will never learn and buy a boat despite all odds.

It's always a good time to buy a boat. And sell a boat.

OP, if you are asking about time of year, i doubt there's a better time since you can use a boat all year but, if there is a better time, I would guess it would be January/February when it is coldest and the fronts come through on a continual basis.

Someone advised us that around March-May, ie, when the snowbirds are heading back up north for the summer is a good time to look for a used boat. The reasoning was that the snowbirds have to decide what to do with the boat they bought for use when the grandkids came to visit. They may well have decided that boat is more trouble than it's worth, they haven't used it like they thought they would, and will be happy to sell it and get it off their hands.

Have you thought of joining one of the boat clubs in the area? We're members of Freedom Boat Club for 7 years now and we're super happy we joined.

We considered that and it's certainly cheaper than buying/maintaining a boat. But, if you buy a boat you can always recoop some of your $. My issue with FBC is you're just immediately flushing 5G's down the toilet that you'll never be able to recoop. Now, if they'd let you sell your membership, that'd be different.

I know all of the pluses, all I'm saying is you have no chance to regain any of the 5G's, that's tough pill to swallow.

Ha ha, I agree with the "don't buy a boat" sentiment.

I belong to Waves Boat Club. No complaints! 5 launch locations. Cheaper than owning.
