So most peoples computer monitors emit toxic fumes from reading my posts about being discontent with Sarasota. Im pissed and broke and priced out. Sarasota is just too expensive for me to continue.

Whats the solution? Should I move, and where to?

What cities are affordable? Is the entire nation unaffordable with high rents and low wages?

What are some smart steps for figuring out what cities are better matches for me?

What cities are Millenials thriving? Is it up north, the midwest, or out west?

Where should I go? It seems like all of Florida is a no.

My husband and I are late 20s and just moved from Ohio to Florida 6 months ago. We choose North Port based on affordability and location. It's a rather easy and short drive to Sarasota and much lower costs. We are close to i75, 25 minutes to beaches and the town is growing nicely. If we waited till now to move though, we would be paying more. Rent here is still fairly reasonable I would say, we manage a property for a family member and for a nice 3 bed 2 bath home it's $1275. It's in a quiet safe area.

Outside of FL, the Midwest is definitely cheap depending where you go. I lived north of Dayton Ohio and average rent was $500 for a nice place. $700 for a single family home. Car insurance is much cheaper to. Otherwise I haven't found much differences in cost so far.

What can you afford and what are you looking for? (Climate, big or small city, what work you do? Etc)

On the other side of looking for places with a lower cost of living, what can you do to increase your income? If college isn't an option, how about a trade, electrician, plumber? I don't recall in any of your posts you saying what it is you do for a living.

Pittsburgh PA.
My son lives there and loves it. He even bought a couple house (to rent out) - paid from 40K to 60K. His house is a brick 2 story that was $115K (more now....but you get the idea).

Lots of young people - lots happening.

You sure those house prices weren't from the 90's?

I would rather not live in north port. I mean, whats there? Its no wheres land.

Right now I drive a cab. It does not pay enough. I do not have a college degree. It would take forever to get a degree. Im also exploring ways to generate revenue online. I rent a room and pay all my car expenses

Pittsburg sounds neat and everything but id like not having a car expense. You need a car to live in pittsburg. Id like to try a big city with public transport that is good enough to not need a car

Im originally from st louis and like it there

My options look like either chicago, or new york city. Ive never been to chicago but ive visited nyc two times. I could figure it out somehow and live there renting a room within a 30 minute commute from manhattan, and living frugal. I would not want to ride a cab anymore. Id want a different job.

Where else can i live without a car? Are there places in other countris where i can get a job that pays enough and the cost of living is low?

Sarasota is getting too expensive for me to survive here.

Move anywhere out of Florida, just anywhere but here. The wages have flat out always sucked here and always will. CityData forums are mostly rich people, so you won't get much help on these forums, unfortunately.
