We took advantage of the free Ringling Museum entry yesterday, and was impressed with how much its improved since I was there last; 20+ years ago.

They added 2 new buildings that house all the circus memorabilia. That was sorely lacking pre-2000, when they had 1 room with not much in it except for 3 wagon cars, some costumes, & posters.

The large room that contained the tiny scale model of The Greatest Show On Earth, & all of its supporting people & equipment was amazing. A guy, his wife, and Son spent decades making that very extensive model of the circus "village". The lighting changed in the room to show you what the circus village looked like in the daytime, and at night; all lit up. That was a nice special effect. The detail of the model's figures, & huge scale of the model village, was awe inspiring.

We also liked the actual rail car that the Ringlings travelled in, & how well refurbed it was. They travelled in lavish style for the era.

They also added the new building where you enter that has the museum shop, cafe, art glass museum (early stage), & a small theatre. Its off to the North side of the property, so you no longer enter through the front gates directly in front of the art museum.

Cest D'zan, the grounds, & the art museum looked pretty much the same, but I forgot how large it all is, and all the massive Banyon trees, bamboo, & other unique species of trees on the site.

When guests come down here to visit us, I'd pay the price of entry to take them to it now, whereas 20+ years ago...nah. It used to be a 1 hour in & out, but now, its more like 2.5-3 hours if you like to read some of the historical placcards in front of the exhibits, & you want to tour the inside of the Cest D'zan mansion. It can't be done in an hour anymore, or even <2 hours, w/o missing a lot.

The free entry event was very well attended, but not overcrowded. The free parking area besides the Asolo Theatre, barely held all the visitors cars. They were setting up for a wedding in the main courtyard of the art museum, & were told its costs $13,000 to rent the indoor/outdoor courtyard venue.

It was a memorable time...thanks Sunshine for making us aware of that special event!
