I had filed an online report about my missing package (before it finally arrived at 2PM on Saturday.) I received a notification email the same day from the postmaster over at the Nokomis post office that she received my report. It said they were looking into it. I then emailed her back to tell her I thought it was mis-delivered and I thought a neighbor had dropped it off at my house.

This afternoon she left a message on my answering machine that she received my email and she agrees it was probably mis-delivered. She said the regular carrier is on vacation and the replacement carrier was new. She will speak to him about it when he finishes his route today.

The postmaster seems really helpful. She left her number and told me to call back if I have any more problems. But this substitute carrier might have dyslexia or someting because my street number is clearly on my mailbox out by the curb. Then it's on the side of the house also. Although my address on the package was kind of in small letters.

I have some packages scheduled to come from Walmart on Thursday. But I'm not sure what carrier they are using. Hopefully those won't turn into another mis-adventure.

Yea, that's what I mean. She seriously could have had a reading disability. They shouldn't be doing a job like this that requires reading.

The post office needs to go back to hiring regular mail carriers, the full-time ones that drive the jeep and wear the uniform.

I would think the contracted ones are to save money. but the USPS lost less money years ago when they had traditional mail carriers.

What you are describing is sadly normal for Venice. We had a wonderful mailman in PA that would drive up the driveway and leave packages on the back porch, or in the garage. I don't expect that kind of personal service, it was above and beyond, but they can't even get the mail in the correct boxes here. We too have the bank of small boxes, much too small today considering all the mail order people do. There is only 1 large package box for each 8 mailboxes and it is not enough.

From the first week we moved here we have been getting mail from houses up and down our street, plus a gentleman with the same house number in a different development! I would put it back into the "outgoing mail" box, and the mail person would return it to me! So I started walking people's mail to them. I even walk my "same number" neighbor his mail over and put it in the "outgoing mail" box for HIS development. Since it's a route I sometimes walk I eventually met the gentleman and introduced myself, to see if he ever got my mail. Now we talk. I get to know everyone this way! It's a travesty though. I'm sure not everyone has the time or interest I do in sorting it all out.

The USPS is badly short-handed, I do know that. It's not a job anyone wants these days. The trucks are not air conditioned, and it requires a great deal of reading and thinking and staying focused on details. I wish I had an easy solution but I don't.

If you read the CD forums here in FL you will see stuff like this in a lot of fields here in Florida. Workers sloppy, not caring or doing a good job. It's not just USPS but all the fields in general it seems. I hear this from locals around here too who are from the midwest for example say the same thing.

Why are so many people lazy down here?

I've never had a package from UPS or Fedex mis-delivered. However nowadays many of the companies I order things from use the UPS / USPS partnership to deliver products. This is when I experience problems with packages sometimes.

UPS does the induction, intitial sorting, & intermediate transportation. Then they "hand-off" to the post office. The post office handles the "final mile" as they say and does the actual delivery. I wish all companies would just ship straight through with UPS all the way - however this UPS / USPS partnership probably saves them money on shipping.

This is explained here:

https://www.ups.com/us/en/supplychai...tal%20services.

"UPS Mail Innovations works with the U.S. Postal Service, providing the pick-up, processing and interim transportation of mail. Then, final delivery of your package is made by domestic and international postal services."

They pack their truck in way that they pull by delivery route
It is possible with a new carrier it was stacked in wrong place and pulled w/o actually reading the address

These people are under tremendous pressure in the postal system to meet standards that are often just unreasonable—just like Amazon pullers with their quotas

We usually had some problems when our regular carriers in TX were out
In Fl so much of our mail is junk and we don’t miss not getting that
