I was doing yard work yesterday evening around 630pm and saw a large bird landing on top of a tree in our neighbor's backyard. Amazingly it was a bald eagle!! I've seen bald eagles in Alaska before, so I have no doubt that this bird was a bald eagle and not an osprey. I've attached a few pictures I was able to quickly take.

Our house is just south of downtown Sarasota near Southside Village. Needless to say, this sighting made my day!

A quick search on the internet shows that bald eagles are common in Sarasota:

My Grandparents used to live off University, and there was an eagle that made one of their trees it's home. They are pretty cool to see out in the wild!

Amen! And you usually don't have to look too hard to find the various wildlife that live among us.

On my typical afternoon walk each day I see often see dolphins, egrets, herons, pelicans, and ospreys, just to name a few.

Great Pictures!
I love bald eagles! They are so strong, beautiful, smart, and interesting.

Unlike the dumb bald . . . that works for . . . well, I better stop there. ;-)
I'll ruin my reputation for being funny if I go futher.

I saw a pair of them flying over head one morning and was so excited. I was told they actually have a nest area near me in Turtle Rock. There is no place like Florida!

The abundance and variety of wildlife in Florida is fantastic. We are fortunate to be able to enjoy it when we get there! We have eagles and ospreys here, deer, bear, turkeys, ducks, geese, turtles, fish, and a lot of wonderful things here in MD as well. I appreciate that Americans appreciate the wildlife we have and have done a pretty good job caring for it, and making strides to protect it. I have seen much more wildlife and variety in Florida though. I think because there is so much land, and water around that is not heavily inhabited (except along the coasts - and then in relatively thin strips). - LOVE IT!
