....once again....you can only imagine the pain & loss going on today. Guns and gangs don't mix. I don't know what the heck our officers, county & city are thinking but this town is turning into a battlefield. Three people were arrested.

Yesterday, a group of four men came from Miami and tried to steal a car out of Bradenton, luckily, they were all caught & arrested.

You can google "Bradenton Herald" and read the stories...

Three teens were arrested Tuesday in the death of a 9-year-old boy who was hit by a stray bullet in a drive-by shooting, authorities said...

Teens? Where is the Parental Guidance? (I know how teens are, I have a couple of them myself)

We can not blame law enforcement, the city or county... But I know where you are coming from. Orange County is not a place I would move too right now, you are right about it turning into a Battlefield

Default Prison Gang Profile

Sur 13 (Sureños):

In the 1950s, primarily in prison, as a method of protection against the dominant white inmate population.

While according to the Modesto Bee, the Norteños still outnumber Sur 13 (Sureños) 4-to-1 in central California, both gangs share similar modes of operation. Both the Norteños and Sureños operate under the direction of "shot callers," inmates who receive updates from three gang leaders controlling tier and yard security and education. There is only one shot caller for each jail. Shot callers report to supervisors in prisons across the state, especially those residing in Deuel Vocational Institution near Tracy. As the Modesto Bee notes:

" The education leader, for example, works with the rank and file for a certain amount of time each week, making sure members learn respect and gang history."

Money made on the outside, such as revenues from trafficking, is taxed and distributed to gang members behind bars, who can use the money for privileges such as books, food, and prescription drugs.

Recently, prison officials have begun attempts to reconcile differences between prison gang members by placing rivals in the same cell block, in what is known as the county's "Breaking Barriers" program. The program, according to corrections officials in the San Francisco County Jail, is proving successful. The main targets of such efforts are "drop-outs", individuals seeking release from the gang's iron grip, who are then relocated to areas of the prison and housed with other ex-members and dropouts They live in the same prison unit, share the same education classes, and attend the same therapy sessions. However, recent criticism has been raised that this may present a violation of inmates' civil rights, as forcing sometimes bitter ex-rivals into close-quarters with one another presents a significant danger. However, in the Santa Clara County Main Jail, there have been no fights reported among the 54 inmates in the program, and the program's cell unit is considered one of the quietest in the 4,600 inmate prison (6 July 2005 San Jose Mercury News).

On the street, law enforcement and immigration security officials continue to use immigration laws and deportation as a method of removing members from the country.

While most members of the Sur 13 are of Latin descent, the gang may accept members from various other ethnic backgrounds. Above all, however, respect and loyalty are highly valued. According to a recent article by the Modesto Bee, the Sureños constitution includes phrases such as, "Thou shalt earn respect" and "Kill a Norteño, win a prize."

Default Gangs in Florida

We got many more in the state:

Every state and major city in the United States is plagued with local, loosely structured, street gangs that are mainly motivated by drug sales. Historically, disruptive incidents in our prisons have been based on the geographic origins of the inmates involved (e.g., Miami gang inmates vs. Tampa gang inmates).

These local groups form based on common interests and a sense of loyalty to individuals from their city, neighborhood, street, or housing complex. They adopt generic names such as Players, Posse, Crew, Mafia, Gang, and Bad Boys and attach their particular street or avenue name to it.

Although they are loosely structured and tend to conduct their illegal activities in a specific location, they are extremely violent and develop bitter blood rivalries.

Often the group evolves, and adopts an alliance with a national street gang such as the Bloods, Crips, or Chicago-based Folk Nation and People Nation sets and use their symbols and identifiers. This graduation in gang involvement often occurs in county jails, prisons, and juvenile facilities.

This increases the importance of tracking the development of gang membership while inmates are in custody. Tracking enables DC to notify local law enforcement of new members or of any changes in a member's affiliation.

Hundreds of these local gangs have been identified in every city from Pensacola to the Florida Keys. This includes small rural towns, upper middle-class neighborhoods, schools, and other areas where we tend to deny gang existence.

Here is a list of gangs/security threat groups we have encountered within the Department of Corrections:

Thei interim sheriff, Brad S. alleges that the gang bangers will be tried as adults. They should face stiff penalties of up to 2 years each.... If their SAO even files charges. The witnesses keep changing stories (imagine that) probably have been threatened by the gangs by now. I prediict the SAO drops this, or charges the little slimebags as juveniles. They should all be in Gitmo, gang violence IS terrorism isnt it?

It is isn't it?

Knoxville had very little crime until the gangs came. Members of the Black Gangster Disciples committed a horrific crime here several months ago and there have been a lot of shootings.

It is terrorizing EVERYWHERE.

I was relieved to see that my area isn't on the list. But I'm not naive enough to believe there is NO gang activity in my state. One of the places that surprised me was Albert Lea, Mn. It's not a very big town at all. Also, there were a few places in Ia. where it's reported. Just don't know what's been happening to them because there's been several bad things going on there lately.

And yea, that should nearly fall under terrorism.

Gangs are everytwhere unfortunately!! My husband and I are moving to FL in a few months to get away from this crime infested, corrupt city of Baltimore. I am a visiting nurse in Baltimore City and I see it everyday. The open air drug markets, the shoes hanging over the wire, the streets closed off in the middle of the day for shooting, kids caught in the cross fire, houses fire bombed because some upstanding citizen was sick of this battlefield and called the police.... I can go on and on. I have a lot of patients with devastating, life altering injuries due to gun and gang violence. I know FL is not the answer and I know it is certainly not free of any of what I briefly described, but PSL has to be better then this. I want to take a walk with my kids and not be afraid of being harrased. I don't want to see drug deals that block traffic on small side streets. I want to send my kids to school without the sick feeling in my stomach that they will be offered drugs or pressured...but who am I kidding? Well, if anyone knows of this fairtale land let me in on it. How is the crime in PSL?
