My mom and I are planning a vacation together for the first time, and we chose to visit Savannah. We live in Indiana, and neither of us have ever been to GA. Although we aren't planning to visit until summer, 2012 (she works in the school district, so would be in June most likely), I'd like to start planning early. Could the locals help me with a few things?
1. Where should we stay? I was hoping for a nice bed and breakfast, maybe near water?
2. Food! We want to eat at all local restaurants, and we will eat anything! Suggestions on some amazing eats? I'm looking for moderate pricing, so basically meals under $30 each, unless there is a place we just have to try!
3. Tours - I hear there are several ghost tours. Anyone in particular or should I just pick one?
4. Things I should have on my to-do list? Best places to visit? We don't mind doing some walking.
5. Weather. We will have go go between June-August. What can we expect weather wise?
6. Any other tips? It's the first year we are doing this together, and I'd love to start of with a fantastic trip. Will probably stay 5 days.

Thanks!

Stay at any of the hotels on or near Bay St., or at the Weston on Hutchinson Island- where you can take a free shuttle across the river. From there you will be walking distance to hundreds of restaurants, places of interest, and tours. You will need to drive a half hour to get to Tybee Beach.
It will be wicked hot.
Go to www.savannahnow.com for current things going on. There are usually some free things that go on every weekend. One thing I recommend in the air conditioning, is a show at the Savannah Theater. There are 2-3 different musicals playing there and they are all very good.

If it's anything like this year, you will be very very hot. If the heat bothers either of you, I would forget about Savannah and look somewhere cooler.
