A posting on another thread reminded me of something I am looking for.
I would like to find a venue or two of music (jazz or blues) off the beaten path. By that I mean, not on the River, not in Connect, or any other publication that serves the tourist community.

Know of any?

Savannah is kind of spotty when it comes to jazz. I know this is not exactly what you're asking for, but I suggest you check into the Coastal Jazz Association and see if you can make a few connections there. Someone will lead you to whatever's going on.

Some of the info in their monthly newsletter might lead you to a few venues. http://savannahjazzfestival.org/wp-c...HYMAR20131.pdf

Well, if you want WAY off the beaten path, you can go to the Lafayette UMC in Ohio every Friday night for the Blue Grass Jam. Best $2. you'll ever spend. I snagged a band from there for my son's graduation party and they played all afternoon and evening for $200.
I'm guessing Blue Grass and Blues are two different things, but there has to be groups like this getting together in Georgia too.
There are frequently people performing at Randy Woods Guitar in Bloomingdale, but not sure if this is the type of music you are looking for either.

There are also the nice yuppie places like Jazz'd and Blue Turtle Bistro that have grown up jazz. Or if you ever hear that Eric Culberson is playing someplace, he's well respected in the world of blues --a local guy who's done well for himself.

Here's his schedule: http://www.ericculberson.com/tourdates.htm

Have only been once, but that's because I don't go out too much anymore. Saw some peeps from the old days, which is a fairly good sign. Otherwise it seemed more or less the same as it was under previous incarnations: multiple bricky rooms connected by stairs, with pool tables, a stage someplace, teevees, alcohol and assorted people. They had good food at the time, provided by Sammie Greens. And they have a decent outdoor courtyard in front.
