I would look for a lot of the smaller bases to be completely shuttered as it makes the most economic sense. In reality it's all about political power in congress.

Some of us, who have children at some of these bases, are glad. In the big scheme of things, we don't think Obama has a clue.

It's not Obama closing them, it's the 550 billion dollars the military is sucking down each year. Also the sheer amount of bases is completely out of whack.

Good Grief!!! I got to reading the articles referred to and I am agast at the amount of money that we are spending "just because"!!!!

Thanks for the link. While I am sure that there is more to some of the items than is reported, there is enough there to blow your mind.

Maybe this new guy in the pentagon will see some of this waste and do something about it... But let's don't hold our beath.

Yea, it's pretty amazing when you look at the infrastructure we have overseas, there are cities in the US that would die to have the amenities, public utilities, and funds available to them like these overseas bases. In a real world the military could be cut by 40% and not miss a beat...
