Visiting the city with 3 other guys for work (age 25-35). Looking for recommendations on:

Food (reasonable fun restaurants)

Bars (non tourists traps that will be fun during the week. Dives are OK too. 2 guys are single, 2 married)

Music (where to see some good live tunes again during the work week)

Sites ( we all enjoy historical stuff and good photo options)

thank you all very much for some local recommendations. Staying at the Hyatt Regency West Bay for location purposes. Will have a rental car but prefer not to use it for nite life.

Believe it or not, you probably won't go wrong with any place you wander up on, as long as you stay in the more well-travelled parts of downtown at night. The closer to the river you go, the more touristy it is. City Market has a good mix of bars and food. Broughton St. Does too. Stop by the visitors center when you get to town and look at brochures. Yeah, that may sound odd, but it's in an old RR building, with a good museum to get you oriented. Plenty of cool things for a group of guys to do around here.

Thanks for the info. Guess I'm still looking for the hidden gems or off the beaten path stuff...also what to avoid.

"Off the beaten path " and not wanting to drive at nite ( I don't blame you!) don't go hand in hand. Of course this crappy weather we're having doesn't help much. For such a short stay I would recommend staying close to home base and the suggestions that have been offered so far.

You're going to be staying on the western edge of the Historic District. There will be plenty of bars and restaurants there. "off the beaten path" in Savannah is like Anytown, USA. If there are any "hidden gems",the locals want them to stay that way without visitors from out of town dropping in.

Really, you will find plenty to do within easy walking distance. Let's hope the weather changes for the good. I get tired of this drippy drip stuff very quickly.

I like the bar at 17hundred90 on E President St. It's a VERY old historic building where locals hang out. It might be the oldest bar in Savannah. It's a little off the path, but not too far from Bay St. They usually have good hearty appetizers for happy hour. It's pretty quiet, so you might not like it.

At the Bohemian Hotel, there is a super view of the river at the rooftop bar, Rocks on the Roof, and the Truffle Fries are good. Unless you're on a big fat expense account, move on from there.

I guess you know, you can walk around with an adult beverage in a plastic cup, so you could just go from pizza to pizza if you want to be casual and it's a nice night. There's Mellow Mushroom, Vinnie Van Go Gos, Your Pie and Screamin Mimi's. If you want oysters, you can find them on River St.

The best crab cakes are at the Distillery. It is VERY touristy, but still a cozy place though. They have craft beer, too. Many bars have music on weekends, but you'll just need to walk around and listen. Get hold of the Thursday "DO" section of the Savannah Morning News and it will give you an idea of what's happnin that weekend.

It's just not that complicated. Check this paper when you come to town: Community - Soundboard Events

River Street is more geared towards tourists.

Do things you're interested in.

This weather sucks. Savannah in the rain is pretty miserable. Hope you're finding a good time.
