I am looking into relocating to Savannah, GA, for a job offer. I have heard lots of responses in reply to younger people and people with children, but what about a single woman in her 40s with no children? I'm looking for someplace warm after living up in the northeast all my life with the brutal winters, especially the one we're experiencing right now. I'm not a party person but I would love beautiful scenery and peaceful surroundings when I come home. Would be living in an apartment upon arrival. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There are plenty of people your age out and about enjoying whatever cultural events that are going on. Once you get settled you'll be able to find friends and plenty to do with them or on your own. I think Savannah is a great town for your (our) age group.

Seems the best part of town to find an apartment would be the islands, particularly on Wilmington but also Whitemarsh. Don't waste your time with anything on the Southside. It's getting to be rough in the apartment complexes on that side of town. Skip Georgetown, as well, as the traffic in the afternoon is appallingly bad. But if you must live there, you'll find a number of suitable options.

If you have a job on the Westside, look in Pooler and Port Wentworth. They've built a lot out there for the expanding industries, so I imagine you'd be in favorable professional surroundings -- though the scenery is pretty generic out there.

Glad to see your post. Sounds similar to my situation. I'm interviewing for a job in Savannah and would like to meet others interested in exploring the city.

Glad to see your post as well - and the response. I hope you find something. I am considering a bunch of areas in the Southeast myself after living in Colorado for a long time and not really liking the dry and brown. I have visited Savannah twice and though I worry it would be a culture shock for me on some level, I have a love affair with that part of the country. I love humidity and greenery and a more traditional home-spun, genteel vibe than I am getting out West. I am in my late 40's, yet I am a video projection artist and that tends to put me around younger crowds. I am a quiet person as well who likes to dance and have a nice time - so I am hoping that if I moved out that way, I would be able to find other creative people - musicians, dancers, electronic music DJ's, etc. to collaborate with. I am very young 47 who is single and would need a reasonably affordable apartment.

You may change your mind about the humidity. It's brutal in Savannah during the summer and just as brown in the winter.

I'm not going to argue with your humidity comment, but Savannah is definitely NOT "brown" in the winter.

Live oaks and spanish moss, loooots of green all year here! Humidity? Sure but we get ocean breezes. Nowhere near as bad as inland in the southeast like in the upstate of GA, SC, etc. C'mon down, the water's warm!

I know I left Savannah 3 years ago for the Evergreen state... Which is 100% accurate when it comes to my yard... Bright green grass and alive year round... A perk of cloudy damp winters.

Oh, about Georgia I was referring to the dead grass in people's lawns... LOL it was plenty brown.

Definitely was not talking about the southern pines and live oaks... We all know they keep their green.
