Wait. You have a DEGREE in hospitality and tourism management? Forget driving a school bus! There are TONS of jobs here in Savannah that you'll be qualified to do!

Yes, I have a AAS degree in hospitality and tourism management. I also have a class B CDL. I've driven a school bus since I was 21. I am now 50. Figured I could combine my love of history/tourism possibly with a tour bus company. Or I can dispatch too for one of them or a local school district. I'd hope I'd end up with enough pay to help with bilss when I move down. Here-working as a desk clerk with a degree-it's $9hr. It doesn't work well with taxes over 8K a year on a home.

I hope I'd end up with a job sooner than later. I spent about 13 months out of work here after breaking my ankle and everyone here thought that degree was written on tissue paper.

Hm your wit and humor if paired with hard work and a bit of luck meeting the right people may net you quite an interesting job in hospitality here somehow. Your posts are humorous if wry. May want to turn AS into a BA and maybe even get your employer to fund it at least partially since these days they use a four year degree as a filter unfortunately.

Thank you SavannahLife.

Well, the job I am working now I've only missed one day sick in almost 5 years. Not to bad for attendance. Besides, who can I call at 3:45am to tell them I feel awful and can't be to work by 5am.

I'd love to actually use my degree with a job I can do. And one that doesn't feel like a job. I started my BA years back for marketing. I ended up just shy of 30 credits left. It was just too much trying to raise three little ones at the time and ended back up again in the school transportation industry. Don't let the school bus fool you. I've done other jobs-medical collections as I also took ICD-10 coding for certification through the VESID program when I was learning how to re-walk again.

I also did a stint while I was a stay at home Mom at the Disney Store-it was the only time I could say that my boss was actually Mickey Mouse. I also worked 5 seasons for our local class AA minor league baseball team, it started as a internship and ended up staying for 5 fun summers. Hands down the best job I've ever had as I met people from all over the country and they were there for one thing-baseball. I got paid to duck foul balls, run the mascots all over the stadium, security and paid to talk. Is there a minor league team there? I could at least do that again when we move there.

I was checking that out. Interesting mascot.

Ok, another set of questions.

Car insurance- do you think it'll be higher or lower than NY? Right now for four cars-two without comp and colleison, it's running me@ $2300 every six months. It's killing me as no one has had any accidents or tickets, it's because of the population boom here and accidents per capita raising our rates.

Home owner insurance-that's about $900 a year here. Average there? What about flood, hurricane insurance? We are targeting the Pooler, Guyton, Rincon and in the Windsor Forest areas for a home. Just curious about the difference between those areas in terms of insurance due to nature.

Also GA tags. are they done at the same location as driver's licenses? Or another place? Can you get vanity plates also?

Thanks! You all have been great!
