The expansion of storage of LNG on Elba Island is under way with a program valued at 2 billions dollars.
Kinder Morgan - Elba Liquefaction Project & Elba Express Compression Project

I recently visited the facility with the Savannah Chamber of Commerce so as to understand the project in greater detail. The intent is to employ 700 workers of which 100 have already participated in their training program. Very ambitious construction project that is scheduled to be done in 2 years.

If interested much of this information is on line or contact Kinder at their HQ.

Overall, this project is great. Happy for all the new employees! Now, can they just do that instead of their stupid oil product pipeline? Still not a fan of Enron/Kinder Morgan in general, given their track record of covering up SC spills etc. I support natural gas export LNG at Elba Island. Too bad a less dishonest company isn't involved. They are like the BP of pipelines.

When Elba Island develops a leak, it's not just groundwater and soil quality that's at risk. Let's hope KM nowadays takes safety a little more seriously than BP.

This is what really worries me. The jobs are high paying, but at what risk to the local community and history?

I wish it were as simple as moving the facility to the other side of town, but of course, it's not.

That is great to hear, are the 700 jobs permanent or construction? Also any info on the pay?

Head of Compliance brought the pipeline up....said it was on "Back burner"...meekly. That's all I know.

Indicated it was starting at $25/ hour. I recommend that due diligence be done with HR.

I'm good with the LNG. if it blows up, it's on an Island. I imagine they've taken into account how close it is to homes, schools, and workplaces but they must have done a thorough job. People recognize risks from things that are very visual. Like explosions. But a pipeline leaking and giving kids cancer in 15 years, well the company can just claim something else caused it. It's a lot harder to prove and to clean up. Underground, out of sight. Until it's too late. Hm 700 jobs there's no way those are permanent. Maybe 70. Still, they will be good jobs. I have to imagine most of that is contractors for construction.

Correct on jobs, I suppose. Right now the storage tanks are controlled from what I remember, with 8 techs per shift, 24/7.

In the seminar they make a very strong case and exhibit why the big bang won't happen. LOL. They actually brought LNG into the conference room and had it "leak". Also put a flame to it. Conference room still there... was there when I left.
