Thankfully it appears nobody was hurt which is the most important thing. Buildings can be rebuilt.

This is horrible! It reminds me of what happened when they were building Atlantic Station in Atlanta. Same type situation of a massive development when more than 50% had been completed.
Just terrible news for the city.
Was this supposed to be completed this year?

Oh no this was just the first phase, apartments were to begin leasing this summer. A 13-story hotel next door had just started construction and was probably not affected. Townhomes on the other end are fine. The rest of the project was to be built in phases over the next 5 years or so.

Unfortunately they'll probably have to level this building and start over. Though I guess the parking deck can probably be saved since it's all concrete.

A friend who knows this kind of stuff said they were 45 days away from having the fire suppression system in operation. That's why you see so many of these developments burn at this stage.

It's sad nonetheless. Hate to see new stuff go up in flames in Savannah, which is not a large city. Seems new projects would be riskier for developers, with recovery (financially speaking) much harder.

The Indigo Road Hospitality Group has added The Savvy in Savannah, GA to its growing portfolio of lifestyle hotels. Slated to open in 2021, The Savvy, which will be located on East Bay Street, will be within walkable distance to numerous attractions, brew pubs, retail stores, restaurants and artists’ studios in the Savannah Historic District and along the city’s River Street.

Best I can figure ... this is what’s going on the corner of Habersham and Bay where that dry cleaner used to be

Excellent. Thank you. The neighborhood seams to be concerned. Not certain why. The tax revenue implications are immense. Especially if this goes fairly smoothly and the developers have eyes south on Bull.
