I'm surprised you'd even consider moving back to Georgia seeing how vocally you've expressed your disdain for the state in many other threads on C-D.

I'll follow a job if the pay is good. I wouldn't be placing roots there. Probably just for a year until something better comes along. I can imagine how conservative a small city in South Georgia can be though and want to know I'll have some gay socializing options without fear of discrimination. I think there are two bars in Savannah? Are they usually empty and only busy during festivals?

As others have said on this thread, Savannah is a VERY "gay" town compared to similar size cities, especially in the south. The presence of SCAD as well as a large and vibrant arts / music / theatre scene, as well a major tourist draw, all contribute highly to gay culture here. The number of "gay bars" is really inconsequential since the entire downtown Historic District, and outlying areas like Tybee Island and Habersham Village, are home to many gay-owned bars and restaurants as well as many "gay friendly" nightspots were people really don't give a damn. This is perhaps the only city in the Deep South I know of where you'll see same-sex (LGBT) couples walking hand in hand on the downtown streets and nobody gives a second glance.

There are two big Gay Pride events -- Savannah Gay Pride in the fall, and Tybee Rainhow Days on the beach in the spring which includes a large a very popular parade and attracts many visitors from all over the SE.

That the national news media is reporting the death of a Savannah drag queen pretty much tells you all you need to know about the gay scene here. This simply does not happen in other places -- even much larger cities. Yea, the reach of Savannah's GLBT community is that great and "infamous."

I have found that Savannah is like any other city. No one really cares who you sleep with. If you are a fully functioning human being who wants to be treated like everyone else, you will find a niche if not a wider life experience. This is, after all, the 21st Century.

Default Some churches here are happy to perform gay marriages

I was talking to a gay neighbor last night and he told me about a mainstream church on one of the famous squares downtown that is holding a lot of gay weddings and that, when polled, over 80% of the church membership expressed support for this.

I doubt a church that holds "a lot of gay weddings" could do that without an overwhelming support of the congregation. Therefore, your point is? BTW what is the name of the church?

I know the Unitarian Universalist Church of Savannah is on Troup Square, but whether one considers UU to be a "mainstream" Church is up to the individual. I think of them as liberal Protestant (lower-case "L"). The only two same-sex weddings I've ever attended both happened there (when I was a member for a few years), both of which occurred prior to the legalization--one couple had already married in Canada and "did it again" for their friends at the Church.

It's a great little Church--very photogenic, but not excessively adorned like a lot of older Churches. That's probably the Unitarian influence. They affectionately call it the "Jingle Bells Church" because the Music Director of the Church back in the mid-1800s wrote the famous song.

So what happened to Tybee Rainbow Fest? I can't find it anywhere. I see something called "Tybee Equality Fest" which doesn't sound like the same thing at all, and it's not in Spring.
