Hi
I will be moving to Wilmington island next month, I currently lease a 2015 car registered in Fl. Lease is up in Feb 2020 and have been told to just ride it out until I buy or lease new car as GA will kill me on taxes for a car registration, taxed on value, I’m only keeping a short time, then again when I get new one? Is this accurate?

Keep your car registered in Florida, Ga. will hit you with a hefty tax bill.

Thank you, that is what I've been told. Just leave it until Feb when I turn car in for a new one.

Yes.

Our registration tax is 7% and is due regardless if you paid sales tax when you registered your car. Georgia is only one of a few states who honor other states sales taxes on vehicles.

For leases I don't know if it's the total brand new cost of the car or the coast of the lease which is subject to the fee.
