My guess is this Costco deal died because of a gas restriction by Parker's. It's customary for businesses to place restrictions on the remaining land when they develop.

Also, the developer is sketchy. I'll leave it at that.

Lol if Parker's and his commercial development company are the reason we don't get costco...

You think?

“It’s all up for lease. So, if anyone wants to lease anything, we’re ready to lease it to you,” joked project developer Mark Boswell during Monday’s City Council meeting.

WTF?! I've never heard of a developer being this "flip" about a project. Being intentionally vague or tight-lipped is one thing, but making jokes about the leasing prospects of a development you've obviously not been honest about is just plain bad business.

“We’d love to have a Cheesecake Factory, a PF Changs, we’d love an Apple Store,” said Effingham County resident Nicole Beasley who does much of her shopping in Pooler.

Pooler Mayor Rebecca Benton also sharing what she’d love to see.

"We’d love to have a Cheesecake Factory, a PF Changs, we’d love an Apple Store.

Were they standing right next to each other when the reporter did the interview?

WTOC is the absolute worst y'all. Seriously.

That developer is only developing a small shopping center on an outparcel. He isn't the owner of the large project. I heard Costco pulled out because they couldn't reach an agreement about the $$ for the land.

^^^^ Which of course was the part of the story completely left out by WTOC. In fact, if you go back and look carefully, Costco wasn't mentioned at all in that city council meeting. It was WTOC that dug up the "old news" about Costco and tried to link it to this development. Like I said, WTOC is truly awful.

There will be a Costco in Pooler. It's only a matter of time.

For the life of me, I don’t understand why people keep asking for Cheesecake Factory and other chain restaurants. It’s all mass produced crap that saw its heyday 15 years ago.

And if one more person asks for a Super Target... Target stopped building those about around 2008. They build 1 full size store a year and are mostly building urban format and focusing on their remodels.

These "what would you like to see in___" surveys from city/county governments always strike me as misleading to gullible people. They think that if the county government asks for such suggestions, that the officials can just call up a company and order/force them to open a store simply because the locals asked for it. Some people have very....uninformed ideas about the role of local governments. We have a lot of northeast transplants and Snowbirds here, so their suggestions are invariably for stores or businesses that are exclusively in the northeast, most of whom logically have no interest in building a one-off location 1500 miles away in Port St. Lucie, Florida!

And for the record, I can't stand Cheesecake Factory either, and there's a better chance of someone opening an apple stand beside the road than an Apple Store where I live, so they need to wake up and smell the coffee.
