Hi everyone,

Thanks for the really informative posts about the area! I'll be road-tripping from Colorado-NOLA-Savannah-Washington-Bedford, PA... reading the posts really helps me feel prepared. Despite the talks about crime, I'm convinced that it's silly to avoid an entire town just because of its rank on any crime list, and that part of quelling the fear of big cities is to just go visit.

In Savannah, I'll probably have just a few hours to explore; are there any favorite places you all like to see when you go for a drive? Forsyth Park and the Historical District look great.

I almost always tell my visiting friends to walk up the Bull St. corridor from Forsyth Park to the river and then wind back along another street or two. The reason you should start at the south end of Forsyth is because there's usually more parking down there and some of it is free.

You might also want to pick out one or two museums or historic sites to stop by on your wander through the district. There are plenty of places to eat, though there are a few gaps where restaurants are sparse.

Just follow your instincts and enjoy exploring.

You must go down by the river and watch the huge container ships go by while you eat or have a drink at one of the many bars down there. Frequently, there is a variety of entertainment going on there too.

Yes, do the riverfront! As cheesy as it sounds, the trolley tours are great too. Each time I go down there we always do it lol

Despite the stats, it's my VERY favorite place to vacation. We have never had any trouble down there.
