I have been wanting to relocate to savannah, but I can't find any decent paying jobs. Who are the high-paying employers in the area?

I see by one of your earlier posts that you were in training as an LPN. Have you finished? If this is what you are looking for, you have the choice or three hospitals, doctors offices, or various clinics. It's not really a highly paid profession. Have you applied to any of the hospitals yet?

I think you will also have to be licensed in Georgia to get full LPN pay. Until then, you would just be considered a medical assistant or patient attendent.

I am a licensed nurse in the state of PA, and am willing to get my Ga license, but if my husband can't find a job then we probably won't be going. My husband has been working for Walmart distribution center for several years, and has no post secondary education (although I keep telling him to do something, even if it's online).

So you can probably find work easily enough and you're looking for a job for your husband. Okay, what does he do at the distribution center?

I think someone in another post (yes I looked to read your other posts too) suggested you look at other large distribution centers like Target and Ikea.

Keep in mind that this is a terrible time to be looking for jobs anywhere. If you have one now, you might consider keeping it.

I would also recomment the Target distribution center. My neighbor worked there in Human Resources for 2 years then moved to the home office in MN. She is not happy there and I know she was happy here.

Check out Georgia Pacific. I know someone whose husband works there and he really likes it. He started out at the bottom in Atlanta and was quickly promoted and then transferred to the one in Rincon.

There are also many chemical companies in Savannah along the river.

Jewels,
if you want to work as a nurse, make sure you apply for license endorsement asap because GA is notoriously slow for processing them. I applied for an RN license by endorsement (moving from FL) over 3 weeks ago and so far all they acknowledge is that they received my application fee lol. There is a whole list of things that have to be verified and all of that still says pending when I check the BON website....I really need to start working the first week in October.

If you need something for the transition time until you find something you like, check out Maxim Healthcare. I worked for them as an LPN and still work prn...its peds homecare. The Savannah branch pays pretty well and thats where Im going to work at least at first when I get there. Im in the middle of my first pregnancy and highly doubt a hospital is going to want to hire me. You will have no problem getting work thru them on a temporary or permanent basis.

Thank you, I've heard about Maxim Healthcare but never looked into it. I applied at Pediatric Services of America, I was surprised to see so many companies that hire LPN's for peds...up here in the north all LPN's do is geriatrics and doctor offices. Good luck with your pregnancy! It goes by too fast!!

memorial health is one of the best employers in the state of GA (and i think in the nation...right? i think that they were recognized nationally for being a great place to work). st. josephs candler is another great hospital here. both are growing (and thriving despite the economy). you should check out both hospital sites - i think that they have recruiters/hr depts.

i too have heard that the target distribution center is a good place to work. there are also companies like derst bakery (with about 300 employees) and coca cola has a big distribution center here.
