Hello everyone! We will be moving to Savannah in few months. We have two small children. My husband will need to commute to Hunter Army Airfield and I will be going to AASU, but maybe not until next year. We are looking to rent, can be around $1,000. For me safety is number one, then distance to work/school, then being close to the beach. From reading all the posts, seems like Richmond Hill is a nice area, but is it too far? What about Skidaway Island or Wilmington? Georgetown? Isle of Hope? Any particular place that you've personally lived in? Any other suggestions? Thank you for your help!

I would look in Windsor Forest, for a $1,000 a month you can rent a 3brd house right behind Armstrong. Your hubby will have a 5 to 8 minute commute and Armstrong is a 3 to 5 minute drive. Also there are several day care options right there in the area.

Hello Linda,

I am military as well or rather my husband is and we live in Richmond Hill. Richmond Hill is really a good place to live and the schools are wonderful here; you won't get good schools like that in Savannah unless you go private. As far as rents go I don't think therre would be anything for as low as $1000 a month here in Richmond Hill, but I am not sure exactly because we bought a house. Your post mentions Hunter, but your heading on your post saying FOrt Stewart;they are two different places so I am not sure where you are looking to move. Stewart is closer to Richmond Hill than Hunter; Hunter is about a 40 minute drive from Richmond Hill.

Good luck

You can possibly find a nice 3 br/2 1/2 bath to rent in your price range in Richmond Hill.
Try the different townhouse communities on Hwy 17 in Richmond Hill. Their about 30 minute drive either to HAAF or Ft Stewart

If you are planning on going to AASU and your husband will be at HAAF, you really don't want to be in the Fort Stewart area. Also, you mentioned near the beach. Skidaway Island is expensive. Wilmington and Whitemarsh Islands would work.. So would Isle of Hope. You need to come and see.

There are apartment complexes in the AASU area that would suitable to rent. They would also be close to HAAF.

Thank you everyone for input! I am trying to narrow down before we move, because I will have to drive around with two kids to look for rental %) Yes, my husband will have to drive to HAAF, and I see now that Richmond Hill is kind of far. But it's a big area, so maybe I can find something close enough. I will look up the places you all suggested. It would be nice to stay in touch with someone from the area. Thank you again. I am sure I will have more questions later, so, please, "stop by"

Looks like Isle of Hope is the closest to HAAF. I would appreciate more info. From what I read, I don't even know if there are any rental properties or if it has an easy access. Is there anything else that's somewhat close to HAAF but not in downtown area?

It's about a 15 minute drive from Isle of Hope to Hunter and 20 to Armstrong. If you look at google maps you can get an idea of the area. The Windsor Forest area I suggested is directly behind Armstrong and you both would have around a 5 to 10 minute commute at most, you at Armstrong would be less than 5 and all back roads no traffic. Here is a road Windsor on the Marsh. Here's one rental on Craigslist for $900 Tranquilla Woods rental house (http://savannah.craigslist.org/apa/1645564221.html - broken link)... You would have about a 5 minute drive and your hubby less than 10.

Bellhead is correct. Windsor Forest is a good location for both of you. Prices would be less than a similar house at the Isle of Hope.
