My garage/man cave gets a stronger signal from the neighbors router than our home.
They are gone daytime, work. I'm retired and have their permission to access.
I just wonder if there are issues I'm not aware of, such as security, tracking, potential of messing up their router.
My device is an iPad and router requires significant password.
Thx in advance for comments.

You're on their network - they can do just about anything they want if they know how to. Of course, that doesn't mean there's anything to worry about. Just as living next to someone with a gun means they can potentially come over and shoot up your house - but it doesn't mean it will happen.

It's unlikely your browsing will cause any issues for them unless you open yourself up to some malware. Which is fairly rare on non-rooted/jailbroken devices. And hopefully they gave you access to their guest network. I'd also treat the network the same as a public wifi.

Shouldn’t matter unless you are downloading movies or music illegally. If so, they will get fined when caught. Also, if you go to illegal porn sites and the like, they will get the knock on the door by the police because their ISP will provide their information.

If you are concerned use incognito Internet and clean your browsing history, cache, cookies etc. after you finish each day.

One of the fumiest things I read was flipping website pages upside down. ROFL..... Great idea if someone is stealing your wifi.

For http pages like this one it's up in the air. If they wanted they could steal your password as one example.

For https pages your browser would issue warnings so they really can't do anything other than play tricks on you like redirecting to another site as another example.

Sure. The question: is there a mutual understanding of what is involved by sharing Internet access?
Do you have access to it as a Guest (separate from theirs)? Do you trust them as they trust you? Or they/you/both parties have no clue about security measures and how Internet works?

they can use something like ethereal/wireshark and look at/watch sites/webstreams you are browsing. if you are using ssh/https they will probably only see encryted packets.

This won't really do anything except keep people from using *your computer* to figure out what you've looked at.

More than likely, no one cares what you're looking at. If your neighbor doesn't care that your sapping their bandwidth and isn't afraid their ISP is going to get upset with them, you're more than likely OK. If you're nervous about your neighbor intercepting your data, make sure to exclusively use https. They will still know what sites you're visiting, but they won't be able to read it. If you don't want them to know even that, you can use a VPN service.
