It's definitely a fine balance as density in West Seattle helps keep mom n pop establishments going, but at the same time you don't want so much unplanned growth that you sit on the W. Seattle bridge for an hour every morning.

That particular poster stated that he wished Seattle had 2-3 million more people.

If you don't want it to be too dense, perhaps Winslow area of Bainbridge Island could work as well. You'd take the ferry into town. But within W. Seattle itself, I like the Fauntleroy area.

Alki Beach can get very congested. Don't buy a home on the main drag. Up on the hillside would be more desireable.
