Hi,

I may be moving to Seattle next year. If so, I would be looking for teaching jobs. I have 9 years of teaching experience in Texas. I understand that some states/districts do not honor out of state experience.

Does anyone know how the school districts in and around Seattle handle this? Will my 9 years count or do I need to start over on the salary scale?

Thank you!

Well, no one answered my question, but I'll answer it myself in case any other teachers out there want to know. I spoke with HR at Seattle PS, and she said that YES, experience does transfer year for year. Many states do not do this, so I am happy to know that I would not take a huge pay cut by moving.

Did they also tell you that they have a hiring freeze on, and there were many layoffs last year?

You might want to check for jobs with some of the other districts like Lake Washington, Northshore and Issaquah but all of them are suffering from state budget cuts and one result is larger class size = less teachers.
