Not looking for those statistic sites, around what age did YOUR friends get married? I am 21 going on 22 by the end of the year and already 3 out of 4 of my total friends are either pregnant/have at least 1 kid or are engaged if not married. I have a lot of friends so out of 10 or so maybe 3 of us are single and still living with our parents. Of the 10 maybe 4 are actually in (long term) college during this period.

I am wondering if WA and Seattle is like this also?? I'm not even excited for my 22nd birthday because I feel like without having a gf I'm just running out of time compared to my friends. I read some where that people in Seattle get married a lot later is that true? How would most people thing of me since I have no kids and no real relationship history??

I am almost 30. I can count on one hand how many of my friends married. I would say maybe 1/3 has kids. What is more normal among friends is common-law "marriages" (or long-term relationships). There's not really much emphasis to follow the society norms/definition of what makes a life-- other than individual pursuit of happiness.

You'll find more people your age not married. If anything, it's just odd to marry so young. As for kids... things do change rightfully so. If the person is a good friend, you'll make the adjustment.

Why do you care what your friends are doing at a comparable age? Live your life. Have fun before settling down.

I'm 27. I'm in a relationship but we have no plans on marriage any time soon. Almost everyone I graduated high school with out in the country got married and/or had kids by 20 years of age and have hit the predictable divorce cycle by age 24 or so. The ones I went to college with that were from the country and moved back to the country or a suburb are all getting married now (around 25-27 years old). The ones that I graduated with that moved to Seattle or other major cities- and other friends I've made here since- are all single or casually dating someone. A few of the older ones in their early 30's have fiances.

Because they were my friends and we're no longer able to do things we used to do (in high school) like hang out, joking, checking out the ladies, playing games and stuff. Kinda sucks because we would joke around and stuff now they're all serious. I know having a family changes you all of that and I am not saying having one is bad but here, with my friends, it just seems like a fad or something. If you don't get married by time you're around 30 you're looked at like you're a bum who just lives with your parents.

I know it is great to be independent now days but between school and the economic issues I personally find the whole situation of getting married by 30 irrelevant to me. It just makes the move easier I guess because I can't hang with them as much anymore anyway. I hope to make some friends in Seattle who are able to stay up late and hang out, be friends without being expected to marry by certain age always looming over the relationship, party stuff like that. I personally never experienced a lot of partying with my friends because like I said my friends had this happen basically straight out of high school.

Ander15,

I don't think you are looking at this the right way. People who come from higher income backgrounds and go to college and have higher education (white collar) usually marry later. I was 32.

People who usually are trades people, don't get a higher education at a college (AA degrees and certifications do not count) and come from a more middle to lower class (blue collar) usually marry earlier and have kids earlier.

That being said, the majority of adults living in Seattle proper are white collar workers with college degrees, so they usually marry later. (late 20s to mid 30s)

SO my question to you is: What are your friend's backgrounds? College educated? White Collar/Upper Middle Class?

Marriage before 30 boggles my mind. Your late 20's-30's are the time when you actually have a few bucks and can go a little crazy and do spur of the moment things. It's all personal preference I guess.

Most of my friends in their 30s aren't married or plan on it anytime soon. Few I know made it past 40.
