Thinking about moving to 35th and Holly. Kids are gone so schools not an issue. I know about the redevelopment and like the concept. Is this neighborhood heading in a positive direction? Pros and cons? Thanks!

I don't live in Highpoint, but we moved into an adjacent area seven years ago. While I can't speak to the neighborhood itself, I can tell you when we first moved here it was a dump. Since then, the whole area has been redeveloped and is looks very nice (at least passing through). It seems more lively, and is relatively close to California Avenue/Alaska Junction and Westwood Village. At first blush, it appears to be going in the right direction.

Default High Point - I love it here

My husband and I bought a townhome here in summer 2007. I am a real estate broker so did a careful evaluation before making the decision and still trust I did the right thing. Altho all of us bought at the top of the bubble and some have not been able to hang onto their homes, this is widespread everywhere and not just a High Point problem.

Altho there have been issues here I have found the extra layer of a strong HOA and staff at SHA to be generally responsive and issues are addressed here way better than they would by a city department. They put in a new manager in Sept 2010 and we are still waiting to see a full recovery from what we viewed as not taking proper care of SHA property and general lack of groundskeeping. The police dept has stats that show the crime rate here is lower than anywhere else in West Seattle (per capita - this is a very dense neighborhood with over 800 homes here so far and new ones under construction now).

You mentioned moving to 35th and Holly - if you move south of Holly that neighborhood is actually called Sunrise Heights and because of the community center and large playfields at the border between the two hoods I view them as far removed from each other so anyone's opinion of High Point is almost not relevant since there are no homes abutting eachother along the border area.

I would be happy to answer any other questions and feel free to contact me at 206.686.HOME (4663). I am pretty active here and after living in West Seattle since 1997 am always happy to help someone new move to the area.

Thank you for the responses. We now have a house under contract and will be spending a few days this week on a neighborhood review and house inspection. Looking forward to exploring a new area!
