I am also a single African-American male, and I relocated to Seattle from Dallas in September 2010. I am still completely in love with Seattle, and I grow fonder of the place every week. Moving from Dallas to Seattle is like moving from a third-world country to a first-world country in terms of the sophistication of the people. I am still amazed by the quality of the people here, and my only regret is that I didn't make this move a decade ago. Overall, the people are far more polite and respectful here than most anywhere in Dallas. I actually get treated like a worthwhile and productive human being here, whereas I got used to being treated like a potentially dangerous criminal in the Dallas area (especially in the northern part of that cesspool).

There probably is subtle racism here from a small number of people, but I really don't care if it exists. I don't know about you, but I am not looking for BFF as I go grocery shopping, etc. I just want to be treated like a human being and make a few friends along the way; the people in Seattle will treat you like a human being, and you will certainly be able to make more than a few friends in the areas you are considering. The racism in Dallas can be very intense, hostile, and overt; you just won't really find much (if any) of that in Seattle.

To me, Seattle represents the promise of what America is supposed to be like. It's not going to be perfect, but a strong foundation is already here.

Thank you for that statement. Reading it just fills me with envy because I am DYING to be among sophisticated professional young adults. I pray to God everyday that he brings people into my life that can make this transition happen as efficiently as possible.

Thank you all...
