Despite the "burbs" there are also many areas of the eastside that are more like living in the woods and mountains. I have just spent a couple of hours with the leaf blower cleaning up after that storm and the hundreds of branches an 1" thick fir needles all over the yard. Well worth the trouble to see only treetops from the upstairs windows, and a view of the Snoqualmie Valley with the snow capped Cascades rising above. Our neighborhood is very walkable as long as you don't want to buy something, and some of us would rather see trees (and even other houses) than traffic and noise when going for a long walk. I walk a mile twice a day in Seattle too, dodging the homeless and other panhandlers, and I suppose if that's what one likes I won't criticize them.

YES!! I am reminded daily how breathtakingly beautiful Sammamish is as I drive south on 228th or walk around Pine Lake. We often go into Seattle for games, restaurants, etc but I am always thankful for the tranquility when I return home.

I don't live on the east side, but would in a heartbeat if I could afford it. Places like Issaquah are spectacular, beautiful town with the hills and mountain views, the forest as another poster mentioned- it's great to drive down a residential street and see only treetops in the distance instead of buildings. And yet Issaquah still has most of the shopping one would need, so it's not like being out in a remote town. Perfect place in my opinion!
