I don't know if anyone is still reading this thread, however, I would love to know if Bothell is an area that a middle class family could live in. The kind that can't live on a golf course. Everything seems SO expensive in that area could a person making $104k/year even afford to live there? We're also a family of 4 (two small children) and care very much about a good neighborhood with wonderful schools. Are we out of luck being able to live in Bothell or would we be confined to a rougher area of town just to afford a home?

If I don't get any responses here then I'll probably start a new thread

Thanks in advance!!

Bothell is a big place. Yes, a family of four can live a middle class lifestyle on 104k a year. Don't expect to buy a luxurious brand new home, but either buy something older or rent a house. You should be able to easily rent a house with three bedrooms and a yard, a nice house, for about 2000 a month, maybe less. Also, nearby areas are a little less expensive like Kenmore, Mountlake Terrace, and Lake Forest Park. Woodinville is a little more expensive. You won't be confined to a rougher area of town(does Bothell have any?) but you might be confined to a house that wasn't built in the last 10 years or so, or a newer home that's cheaply built. It's not a bad idea to rent first to get to know an area and see if you like it.

Bothell is relatively moderate, but the commute on 405 from there can be long. 405 gets badly bottle-necked there after 5 splits from all the traffic coming south from Lynnwood, Everett and all points North. If you commute off hours or work around there it shouldn't be so bad. Have you looked at less expensive areas in Kirkland? As Ira says, Kenmore, Mountlake Terrace and Lake Forest Park are also good options depending on where you work.
