I thought it was supposed to be the Seattle folks that are elitist snobs that look down on others... this judging of everyone around me is tricky stuff.

At any stage? Has anyone actually explicitly said that or are you just thinking that's what the socialist party means when they say the want to remove "all restrictions"?

That happened to me once. I dressed for the symphony, and everyone else was wearing shorts. The kid in the seat next to me was hyperactively bouncing up and down and crawling all over her seat the whole time, while her father (in shorts) lamely and ineffectually kept telling her to sit down. This is Seattle.

Seattle is one of the few places I've ever lived where men and women are barely distinguishable. My instinct tells me that Chairman-Mao suits like they had in 1960s Red China would be considered a 'fashion statement' in this urban backwater! LOL

If we kicked all the Socialists out of Seattle, we'd have a lower population than Orting. Besides that, they'd just spread out all over the country and ruin every other city like they've ruined this one.

It's better for the few sane people left here just to move out; and the let the place collapse under its own stupid policies.

One thing you can say for Seattle: everything is tolerated except civilized behavior!

It's kind of weird how well Seattle is doing economically, despite all that horrible socialism and liberalism. Better than most conservative cities.

I don't think conservatives are necessarily stupid or ignorant, though many of the rank-and-file are .,.,, there are plenty of dumb liberals too. It's just that liberals have more altruism and compassion ....... we want to work together for a better future for all and for the planet, while conservatives usually prefer a dog eat dog world hopefully with them and their family having a chance to become king of the hill - no matter what happens to the ones on the bottom ("they deserve to be there because they're lazy" etc).

Seattle's good the way it is, as is the West Coast in general. Maybe if rightwingers don't like it, they could move to a libertarian paradise like Texas, Montana, or Idaho - and then finally feel at ease.

Boy, does this sound naive.. Seriously, it is not the ultra-liberals that are making Washington state dynamic and empowering the economy, rather it is the conservative government in the state that has helped the city of Seattle flourish. If the Seattle city government had its way, all the corporations would be fleeing the city just as they did to my home town of Portland, OR, which now does have a dominant liberal party in the Senate/House of the state. Thankfully, Washington is fiscially conservative and libertarian throughout the state and even the extended Seattle area.

Believe me, if those corporations had to fork out the kind of tax money they did in my home state of Oregon, many of them would be going east to Idaho as many have threatened. For example, Nike threatened to move its plant to Boise, ID, a city which has been begging Nike to move their headquarters there for years. However, the state of Oregon made a special deal with Nike exempting Phil Knight's company from the notorious Oregon state taxes as long as he stayed there and agreed to keep a strong local workforce. So, this giant mega-corporation is exempt from taxes that all the other business owners in the state are stuck with. Sounds real fair, progressive and liberal, doesn't it? Good ol' liberalism at work! The hypocrisy!

Welcome to Washington, a Red State with a big blue mole.. Thank those right-wing yahoos for the fact that so many businesses feel comfortable running their operations in this state and that so many people desire to live and work here thanks to a lower tax burden. This is not the liberals at work here!

I don't typically go to the symphony, but I do go to the ballet and opera, where the majority are dressed up. Especially at the opera, where some dress in black tie. Yes, there are always some who didn't get the memo, and mostly I assume many of those are folks who've never been there before. In that case, I'm just happy that they're there, supporting our artists and expanding their cultural palate.

I think you're overestimating it a bit there. Yes, the Socialist types make a lot of noise, but there aren't really that many of them. Witness the absolute crushing of Jess Spear in the primary election last August, and that was the 43rd district which covers Capitol Hill, Fremont and the U-District. Even I was surprised by how badly she lost.
