Starting early, "It Happened At The World's Fair", an Elvis vehicle, was better than average. (1963)

"The Slender Thread" is hard to find, but a great drama about early Seattle efforts to tend to emergency situations, with Sidney Poitier (1965). Great overhead views of Seattle at the time, and nice Ballard location shooting.

"McQ" (1974) brought John Wayne to Seattle for one of his final movies. The geography is out of order, but still entertaining.

"House of Games" (1987), is a really under-rated movie about con-men and almost all the scenes were shot in Seattle.

"The Fabulous Baker Boys" (1989) with Bridges brothers and Michelle Phieffer have some very nice Seattle locations.

"Singles" (1992) was a big hit, and represent the city at the height of the grunge era, although the movie really isn't about that.

"Sleepless in Seattle" (1993) may be the most famous movie, with most shooting right in Seattle, with Lake Union of all places the star.

There were many others. Anyone have some additions?

The Changeling 1980 version
Ten Things I Hate About You
The Hand That Rocks the Cradle
The Ring
Fear
War Games
Twin Peaks of course
Rose Red
The Vanishing
Disclosure
Say Anything
I Love You to Death (Tacoma)

Some movies have a few scenes of Seattle then film the rest in Vancouver. Love Happens is a good example, there was hardly any of actual Seattle in that movie. The Ring has a lot of other locations too.

Yes, many films did some location shooting in Seattle, then moved to Vancouver. (lower costs, more friendly environment for filming, etc.)

Of those you mentioned, "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle" is one of those that was not Vancouver-centric. Thanks for reminding of that one. Wasn't bad.

"The Vanishing", yes, nice Queen Anne and North Bend locations (brief).

"War Games", limited local shooting, Snohomish, but most shot in Hollywood.

And thanks for "Disclosure". Total Seattle/Puget Sound film.

As an aside, there have been probably a hundred made for tv films over the past couple of decades that were filmed in Vancouver, but set in Seattle. Just plain sad.

The scary as heck 1974 political thriller " The Parallax View" was filmed in Seattle.
"Trouble in Mind" with Kris Kristofferson was filmed in Seattle, and the Seattle Asian Art Museum in Volunteer Park served as the bad guy's mansion.
The "Battle in Seattle" a fictionalized account of the WTO riots/demonstartions was filmed in Seattle( and was really good).
"Rose Red" was godawful , but I spent two 16 hour days working as an extra on that film. Although I got paid and fed, I didn't appear on film. I made the cutting room floor. And that it why I sell real estate instead of having my picture on magazine covers at the supermarket checkout line.

Haha, Ira500. I also did some extra work in the 80's when I was younger and cuter. This job has a way of directing you back to what you really are cut out to do!

Thanks for the Parallax View reference. The Space Needle sequence was terrific! And for some reason that reminded of the Rocky film, "First Blood". Not Seattle per se, but set in NW Washington, and almost entirely filmed in Canada. One of the first to use Canada as a sub for Washington. Boo.

The documentary Hype! is a great movie about the Seattle music "scene" in the 80's and 90's. Plenty of great shots of the Seattle metro and Puget Sound. Really well done.

Great movies.... I remember the first time I saw The Vanishing and the brief Mt. St. Helens footage at the beginning. It was impressive enough to me that when I moved out here last year one of the first outdoor things I did was take a helicopter tour of the crater and surrounding area.
