I am wondering how you visit & experience tidepools.

I did them when I was little - parents drove to tidepool and I looked at stuff in them. Now as an adult, I wonder - where and how.

For example, I read the minus tides are the best but only happen infrequently. Can you experience tidepools at regular low tide or just during minus tide events?

Where do you go to see tidepools around Seattle?

I'm heading to Deception Pass this weekend and will hopefully catch them. Friday is a -1.6 tide, but I don't know if we will make it on time. Saturday and Sunday are +.9 and +1.6, so will we be able to still experience tidepools?

We go to the south point of Alki Beach off of the lighthouse at low tide (minus tide is best) and it's very easy to experience the tide pools. The rocks can be sharp underfoot though so wear good thick soled grippy shoes.

You should wait until it's at least -1: the lower the better. One way to cheat is to go when there are beach naturalists. This website lists the beaches and times:

Seattle Aquarium

I believe you can also tidepool at Discovery park as well. Texas is right: Alki is a great beach for tidepooling.

There is a beach on Indian Island that is fantastic for seeing all kinds of sea life at low tide. I still haven't been to a place here yet that can match it. It also has a sand beach that is super nice. Well worth the drive at the right time.

Your enjoyment of tidepools will be greatly enhanced by this book.

Most importantly, go at low tide!
