I don't know about those ratings. Houston and Dallas are cooler than Seattle?
Do people move to Dallas for it's coolness factor?

Houston is so un-cool I can't even comprehend it being anywhere in the top 20. Austin? Yes. Houston? NO.

That totally surprised me, as well. I have scrubbed my brain of all memories of Houston.

They couldn't find room in the top 20 for New Orleans? Lame-o.

Metro Division: Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV
Arts & Culture Index: 99
Recreation Index: 93
Diversity Index: 70.9
Number of Local Eats: 6,149
Median Age: 36
Unemployment: 5.4%
2011 Net Migration: 34,260 people

Yeah, there may be a lot of recreation, but you can't do ANYTHING in the summer time because it's so damn HOT. Not sure about the Arts and Culture thing either. There's nothing artsy or cultural about living among people that define themselves by what they do for a living and tell you how much better they are than you because they do that thing for a living. I can't WAIT to move to Seattle in a week. D.C. can pucker up and kiss it.

I read with interest until I saw the #1 pick, then it made me a total nonbeliever in this ranking.

How the heck did Forbes Magazine gain the status of reporter on "what is cool", here or anywhere? Wouldnt Rolling Stone be more credible? Or Salon? Anything but a mag like Forbes? What next? Barrons on "best charities"?

Houston? Dallas? Really? Austin, I could see, but not Houston and Dallas. Hell, San Antonio is way cooler than either of these. Consider the source...Forbes may know what it's talking about when it comes to money issues, but not "cool". Oh wait, is that how Forbes measures cool?

Oakland at #6? For those wearing a bullet-proof vest perhaps.
