Are there plans for under/over passes for Aurora Ave - particularly through the SLU area? The way that road divides the city is a bit annoying, but maybe there are good reasons for it or good plans for it that I don't know about.

I haven't been able to figure out plans for pedestrian access, but pedestrian routes across 99 are badly needed. The current crossings are limited to Denny, an extremely narrow and congested sidewalk on Mercer, and a lovely set of steep staircases at Galer. It really sucks for pedestrians.

Exactly. I just walked that route today and was amazed at how bad the pedestrian routes are.

The designs for the north portal to the waterfront tunnel can be seen at http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/NR/rdonlyres..._folio_web.pdf

The north portal of the new tunnel is at Harrison, which is about 4 blocks north of Denny. (It's where KING TV and the Seattle Pacific Hotel are currently). The streets south of Harrison will be reconnected between SLU and Seattle Center, and it there will be lights and crosswalks at John, Thomas and Harrison. There will still be a Mercer underpass, but it won't be as much of a canyon as the current one is - the SW corner will open up to the Gates Foundation campus.

It's going to be a huge change and might actually improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety in the area.
