I just moved to upper Queen Anne and am getting used to the different noises. Pretty used to the train by now, but all last night starting at about 10pm to 7:30am this morning (still going on as I type this) what sounded like a boat horn was blown about every 1-2 minutes all night. What was that? Will it happen again? Didn't get any sleep because if it. Thanks.

I'm not sure exactly which boats blow horns, but the horns overnight are probably the ferries. I only hear the horns when it's foggy on the Sound, but yes, it's a frequent occurrence.

It was a foggy night/morning so not just the ferries but container ships, the grain ships and others will use their horns a lot more. Hopefully you will get used to it because we do get fog on the sound.

I love that sound.

If there was fog then all shipping must sound their horns regularly by law, including those at anchor.

I'd be willing to be that it was a foghorn. Yes, if it is foggy you will hear it again...

I was hearing them all morning and now they're back again. How loud they are depends on the wind direction and other weather conditions. Sometimes it sounds like they're right next to the house.

KC also called for a burn ban today due to the stagnant air. It looks as though this fog/smog will be around for a few days.
