Rent a studio in each location and take turns!

Really - they're both great places to live, and that is the nicest thing about renting. If you decide you want to try something else, you just wait til the lease is up and you're onto something new. Which area felt more comfortable to you?

What do you and your wife do on the weekends or in your free time? SLU definitely has alot of entertainment in walking distance/easy access by public transit while Bellevue is meant for the car. Downtown Bellevue does have this to do. If you and your wife prefer Movies, Eating out, Going for walks at parks, and kind of staying in then Bellevue could work but if you prefer being in the thick of things, without a car you would be a a disadvantage in Bellevue.

Downtown Bellevue is a corporate high-rise paradise in the middle of suburbia. Just a couple blocks from the Expedia office you enter the suburbs, meaning that you'll need a car to get around. Downtown Bellevue has basic amenities and of course a lot of entertainment, but if you want to visit Costco, Fred Meyer, Whole Foods and do other suburbanite stuff then you'll need a car. If you don't have a car then SLU may be a better option.

Do keep in mind however that SLU is in Seattle. While Seattle is a nice overall safe city, it still has sub-par schools, cleanliness, and safety compared to Bellevue. As I said earlier, it is a corporate paradise in the middle of suburbia. There are virtually no homeless, and everybody there holds high-paying corporate jobs. One of the best high schools in the state (Bellevue) is right down the street. It's a safe, clean, beautiful area.

Personally, I love downtown Bellevue and the eastside suburbs. I'd go for that if you have a car.
