ATL has cheaper airfare from SEA than many other Southern cities. The key is buying well in advance. I buy a ton of tix to Charlotte and they're nowhere near as cheap as the Atlanta ones, no matter how far in advance. My dad comes out from Alpharetta regularly to house-sit. He's about to go back and was jokingly asking to just stay for the rest of the summer, dreading the return to the heat and bugs.

and honestly once the temp hits 106, the heat index is probably wretched and it feels more like 116. The heat index gets me every time. I don't miss it even a tiny bit.

Seattle traffic is WAY better than Atlanta, COL is definitely higher - significantly. I agree that there's more cohesiveness in the culture here than there, and better nightlife there. It depends heavily on what makes you happy. I love, love, love that we can be outside hiking and wandering 365 days a year. We can hike a mountain in the middle of August and no one dies. The lesser nightlife to me isn't significant enough to outweigh all of the other benefits.

Not sure if the original poster is a single person or has a family. For us it is always 5 tickets plus a rental car. A huge expense even when planned in advance. We had a few deaths in our family our first year here and with short term flights we spent thousands on airfare. Things to consider or factor into a budget.

I totally agree on the weather. I can't speak for the nightlife except to say that the beer culture here with all the breweries is a blast and there is none of that in Atlanta.
