My original post left a few things out. I know nothing of the area. The last time I was in Seattle was 1971 to visit my sister. Now I want to move there after retiring (military & teaching) to be close to my sister. She lives in Snohomish County, so I want to be north of Seattle. Any suggestions?

(original post)
I'm looking to move to the Seattle area. I want to find a place to rent before I buy so that I can get familiar with the area. I have a dog, a cat, and a dozen chickens--including roosters. There are folks who enjoy the sound of traffic, stereos, loud parties, and the general hum-drum of city life. I am not one of them. I like waking up to roosters cockadoodling and hearing the sounds of nature with few human overtones--in other words--country living.

How do I find such a place? Most ads are for apartments (Craig's List) or for selling, not renting. Are there rental listings for country living? I mean modest country living--nothing fancy.

Try Rentalhouses dot com, and search Snohomish County. That kind of property is often not listed online, but will be in a small local newspaper, or with just a sign posted on it. I have a sister in Monroe on acreage in an old farmhouse and she found it through a sign posted on the main road.

Anywhere out Highway 2...the further into the Cascade foothills, the quieter.

Or Whidbey Island - a short ferry ride from Mukilteo/Everett.
