I haven't done it myself yet, but here's the transport info for Olympic National Park from the National Park Service web site. Page down for the bus info. Apparently you depart from SeaTac.

Having a car in Seattle is a problem. Parking is a problem. If you live in Seattle it is better to not have a car unless you are visiting relatives in the surrounding cities.

I agree ... I think the area between NW 60th St and I-90 are basically the toughest places to find parking. It's getting to the point where getting parking can add another $100 to $200/mo to one's monthly costs.

North of 85th - look for a place that is within walking distance of a transit center - Lynnwood, Shoreline, Northgate, for instance.

For easy access to transit, look south of 65th. Some areas in the city have only express bus service during peak periods - Sunset Hill in Ballard, for instance. Seaview Avenue (to Shilsole and Golden Gardens) has NO bus service.

I'm less familiar with the Southend, but areas such as north West Seattle, North Beacon Hill, Columbia City, Rainier Valley (Othello), etc., have convenient transit options (RapidRide for West Seattle, light rail for the others). Living within walking distance or a short drive from a Sounder Station is also a possibility (Sound Transit stations have free parking, but Link light rail does not).
