When I tell people at work I live in Northgate Seattle they are surprised. I work in Bellevue.

Many co workers ask me if I plan on moving to Bellevue or the eastside. My answer to their question is no.

I prefer Northgate Seattle over the eastside because of Northgates central location.

Bellevue is too boring of a place to live for me. Too suburban.

MY question is why do people at work wonder why I live in Northgate Seattle and not on the eastside?

If you live in a place that seems very far or hard to commute from, people will always ask that. You especially see this on the east side since people eventually move closer to where they work but that's not always the case. I know plenty of people that I work with on the Eastside that live in Seattle, Mapple Valley, Lynwood, etc. that always get asked if they'd move closer to the Eastside. It's like an Eastside mentality, really.

It's a combination of it being quite far from where you work and also being an area that has nothing particularly special or remarkable about it.

Live where you like. People just like to ask questions of other people to connect, and that's an obvious one.

I lived pretty close to Northgate and my husband commuted to Redmond. You're right: there is a lot of convenience... right on I-5 corridor. We moved to the Eastside mainly for schools, but also to have more access to outdoors. As with most of Seattle, having quick access to the wilderness is limited.

I lived in Northgate back in the day, and it was not without some advantages. First, I-5...right there. Second, shopping, right there. And this was circa 1989, it is even more developed today with lots of options for shopping, (even outside of Northgate Mall), and movie theaters, Five Guys, moderate rents, and a real northend sensibility, however you define that.

Plus, light rail will eventually reach there. Until it eventually reaches Roosevelt.
