So what is this going to mean, $15,000 deposits for an apartment in Seattle?
Owners aren't going to just eat the forced "free rent".....

One thing she conveniently ignores about Paris' no winter eviction law is that there is also a fund to reimburse landlords. I'm so tired of a rich lady who got rich off tech and now wants socialism for everyone else... She's just an opportunist.

Add it to the list of the existing 10 million reasons I’ll stick to the Eastside and south SnoCo (Mill Creek) for my landlording endeavors, I would absolutely never (well almost never, unless I was basically “stealing” a property in Seattle) consider being a property owner in that city; but I guess that’s what komrade sawant and her ilk really want - everyone living in state-owned dwellings.

Perhaps she should re-read The Giver...

In France it is called the "winter truce". If you have a previous eviction on your record, it may make it much more difficult to find a place to rent.

Can someone explain to me how she is still in office? All I've heard are complaints of her being a psycho - who is voting for her?

The votes that put her over the top late came mostly from the Capitol Hill area.

What is it about the voters in Capitol Hill that elected her? I used to have an aunt and uncle who lived in a big old home on Queen Anne Hill but it is probably demolished by now.

The demographics are far different from some other areas such as Ballard. Far more renters than owners, twice as many "Non-families", very few children. Many young tech people, who her campaign workers implored to vote for her as they were exiting onto Broadway from Capitol Hill Station. They had a table of information and volunteers from the Socialist Alternative campaign

This is important to the discussion. Why should business owners lose money due to an edict from a council member? Perhaps she should offer to reimburse those landlords who can't evict in the winter. The old phrase, "put your money where your mouth is" applies here. And apparently, she can afford it.
