Yes, I’m still feeling out the vibe in the cities east of Seattle. I’ll definitely check out those other areas you mentioned! I’ve heard a few good things about Edmonds. Anything in particular you like about it, or does it just match a lot of the things I’m looking for?
Just has good vibe (especially Edmonds Bowl-good walkability) and hits a lots of your wants/needs. Where are you coming from in Europe?

West Seattle does not have the best schools in the city (and the city schools are worse than the suburban ones). I'd stick to NE Seattle or Queen Anne if you want the best schools and still want to be in the city. SPS I consider mediocre at best, overall.

Yes, it is a large area… I’ve been eyeing mostly (North) Admiral area within 4-5 blocks of California. I realize it’s a super specific area, but we’re coming from living in a European city center and enjoy the walkability. I especially like to be close to a couple grocery stores, and maybe a brewery or two However, we’re prepared to give up that lifestyle (walking everywhere) mostly, if it gives us good schools and some feeling of security. It sounds like this part of West Seattle could fulfill most/all of our wishes though. In Europe, living in/near many city centers is actually very safe and lots of good schools, so I’m seeing if it’s possible to match in Seattle. But maybe I’m just looking for too much.

As for ”Northeast Seattle”, I’m talking about the area just north of Laurelhurst- Ravenna, Wedgwood, etc so east of I-5. Seems like good schools, which usually indicates some level of safety, but there’s no clear “center”… shops seem to be dotted around in various places. Although there seems to be some concentration along 35th Ave NE and NE 65th St.

Budget is healthy enough to consider decent SFH in these neighborhoods, but with all the bidding wars and investors in the market, makes me think we need to look at homes 10-20% lower than our desired spend.
65th and Roosevelt is a "center", maybe a bit too busy of one with the new light rail station. Whole Foods and all kinds of cafes/great restaurants are within blocks of that corner. A more pleasant and manageable core is 65th and 25th (Isarn Thai, Wataru, Zouave). 35th Ave has a small collection of shops, cafes (Wedgwood Broiler, Top Pot Doughnuts). Another often overlooked area is North Ravenna North of 75th St between 15th and 25th, walkable to "nicer" parts of Lake City Way (think Growler Guys brewpub, Zaina Cafe).

Greenlake (to me) often feels like the most European part of Seattle. At least, as close as we come.

Agreed, especially the Phinney/Greenwood area with its numerous pubs and coffee shops. The Madrona neighborhood feels similar to me, as can California Ave SW in West Seattle.

I'd also vot,e for NE Seattle: Burke-Gilman Bike Trail, Parks/Open Space (Ravenna, Magnuson, Arboretum, Green Lake, Gas Works Park, UW Campus, Woodland Park/Zoo), Matthews Beach, Green Lake), Museums (Burke Natural History Museum, Henry Art Gallery), Natural Food Stores (PCC Community Markets, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's), Shopping/Dining (University Village, The Ave).

Thank you everyone!! This was extremely helpful in narrowing down neighborhoods and possibly eliminating some places… the whole area is just so big with so many options.

Hiphapa, not sure if you have seen this, a good link to track West Seattle Bridge repairs. Looks like the reopen plan is still mid 2022. https://www.seattle.gov/transportati...bridge-program
