Light rail will arrive to Eastside in 2023/2024.
This is true, but Mercer Island is served by the I-90 bridge which is not tolled.

^ We're just used to entering Seattle from the North end of Lake Washington/South Lake Union, as we live in the Eastside, Redmond.
OP, yes, I-90 is toll free.
If I haven't said before, get the shortest rent/lease so you can explore the area and not locked into something for 12 months, assuming you are renting.
Likewise on the Seattle side, a triangular area of Mt Baker area, lower Central District, Higher end of Rainier will give OP good access to I-90 and into downtown Seattle while being in a younger crowd (more apts)

Dude, don't do Mercer Island if you want to have a life.

Is your office in Bellevue? What part of town?

There are a number of bus routes that connect Seattle neighborhoods directly to Bellevue and Redmond. I went that route when I first landed here two years ago, got a studio in the University District and rode to Redmond on one bus.

Or you could live in Lake City (urban neighborhood at the northeast corner of the city, cheap by Seattle standards, grungy vibe that most of the city has lost) and have a pretty easy drive to the Eastside/Bellevue, straight shot on Bothell Way and then I-405.
