Sounds like good momentum is coming, article here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.kir...outputType=amp

“ Seattle Mayor-elect Bruce Harrell is putting together a team that can begin tackling the homelessness problem right after he takes office on New Year’s Day.

We met the mayor-elect in the plaza at the City Hall he’ll soon be in charge of leading.

Across 4th Avenue was a small encampment, an example of the citywide homelessness problem.

“You still see tents right across the street from City Hall,” Harrell noted as the interview began.

Harrell says he’ll start work on homelessness even before he takes office on Jan. 1.

And we’re going to have community leaders and civic leaders join us in this discussion and such that when January starts, we are ready to publish our plan on homelessness,” Harrell said.

During the campaign, Harrell promised he could attract donations from big businesses and others to pay for housing and services.

“Those are the discussions I’m having. No commitments, here’s a $20 million check, but trust me, I’m not afraid to ask for $20 million checks when it comes to fighting for these issues, affordable housing and homelessness.”

Hmm... hasn't the mantra from the "center left" in Seattle always been we don't need to spend more money on homeless issues, but we just need to spend what we have more wisely...???

Well, any progress is progress I guess. I hope the new mayor will take a stiffer stand on this issue. Seattle's survival depends on getting this under control. The objectives and goals are yet to be seen. But I am always hopeful with new leadership.

Another one with no common sense.

Thinks he can do this asking for donations. Just as well try to set up a go fund me page.

IMO, he seems to have quite a bit of common sense. Once a more targeted approach to address our pressing issues is in place, what’s wrong with asking corporations for donations? They can always say no. Harrell seems like he has sensible ideas and the energy/force of personality to make progress. Let’s give him a chance.

There is not a darn thing wrong with asking for help.
At least he is willing to try things to fix the mess.
Doing nothing only makes things worse.

Go Harrell! You do realize you can change the course?

I totally agree with the above.

There is a huge difference between “asking” and “taxing,” so let’s see what happens once he’s in office. IMHO, I’d bet that the major corporations/companies, within Seattle, will step in and help out more than they have been under the current mayor.

I do worry that the City Council will do everything possible to derail Bruce, instead of working with him to get Seattle up and running again.

Then Seattle must vote for a different city council. Pretty simple, atleast in theory.

Seattle is retrenching. I would suggest ultra liberals give up the fight. Your chances are declining and your time is up.

However, Seattle voters need a bigger turnout to get rid of this stink. Vote, Seattle moderates. It may save my birth city and your city.
