Not really. All traditional high schools start 9th grade. There are a few non-traditional schools or educational settings based on vocation or alternative learning philosophy but those start either earlier or even later.

No need to waste your kid's time in a HS in WA state.

In WA, 11th and 12th graders are permitted to take community and technical college courses. I know a family where both kids graduated high school and earned their AA at the same time allowing for their single mom to only pay for 4 years of traditional college (instead of 8). That's amazing, but it's a tricky program.. the poster above makes it seem easy-peasy... but there are some considerations... for example, your student is responsible for getting themselves to and from community college. There can be some issues with finding the right course at the right college at the right time. Additionally, in my own research, I figured out that my kid, who is on a normal math track, could benefit very little because he hadn't started advancing in mathematics from 6th grade onward... so.. especially for any of the engineering/science fields advance preparation is highly recommended.

And the program won't work for my other son because he is much enjoying a traditional high school experience with emphasis on high school athletics and friendships and is much looking forward to matriculating into a flagship university that includes high intensity collegiate sport atmosphere and rowdy fraternities. Paid for, in full, by mom and dad (which we can afford).

Running Start is for the exceptionally organized and focused. It's for the ambitious. It's for frugal-minded.

I don't understand the bolded. What kind of college program takes 8 years? Running Start allows participants to complete college in 2 years, not 4 or 8. The first 2 are done in the final 2 years of HS, leaving 2 more at university level. Are you thinking--grad school? An MA is still only an additional 2 years. That means a total of 4 to complete a BA and an MA, after 2 HS years of Running Start.

2 kids, 2 years each = 4 years. Would've been a total of 8 years (for both kids) without the running start program.

In some high schools now, the Running Start college courses are taught at the school itself, they just get converted to college credits when you pay a small fee. So the students get the high school life as well as the college credits.

Right! 2 kids (I missed that) x 2 yrs. = 4! Shazam! (I never was good at math...)

I imagine the privates are kinda of slushy for grade levels.
Even the local school district say they are somewhat variable: https://www.lwsd.org/schools#:~:text...oice%20schools.

Lake Washington School District (LWSD) has 33 elementary schools (grades K-5), 14 middle schools (grades 6-8) and nine high schools (grades 9-12) throughout Kirkland, Redmond and Sammamish, Washington. (Note: Exact grade levels may vary in choice schools. Schools that serve more than one grade level are counted in each grade level they serve.)
italics are mine.

we do not have kid(s) below the age of 37. Hoping for something.
