I got confused looking at the metro site -because I couldn't tell if I needed Metro- or Sound Transit-or both then I couldn't tell how many zones I'd travel through to calculate the correct fare- I'd rather get come kind of card to swipe through. Looks like route 560 will work great for me for the most part. I need to get from the airport- to the Fauntleroy ferry terminal- then later- from the ferry terminal to various points (mostly in West Seattle) then in the end- back to the airport. A weekly pass would be great- but a daily one would be fine too- is there such a thing and can I get it at the Airport? Also do the buses actually stop at all designated stops- or do they go on by if you don't ring a bell or something- different cities do it differently---(I found this out the hard way)
Thanks

560 is a Sound Transit route, SeaTac to West Seattle would be two zones, since it crosses into the Seattle city limits. Weekly or two week long passes can only be purchased from the Sounder Train ticket machines, and those passes are also good on both Sound Transit and Metro buses. Daily passes are sold by Metro at their customer service stations and maybe some retail outlets but also online, and those daily passes ( 5.50) are also good on Sound Transit.

What and How to Pay on Metro Transit (http://transit.metrokc.gov/tops/bus/fare/fare-info.html#regday - broken link)

It doesn't look like the Metro day passes are variable by zones; To make it as simple as possible: it's $3.50 for the entire day, no matter how long the trip, as long as it's a Metro route. If you need to take a Sound Transit route (the 560 is Sound Transit), you would need to add $1.00 to the fare box in addition to your pass.

For the most part the bus will only stop at designated stops if the bell is rung. The exceptions would be park & ride/transit center stops and perhaps some of the express routes that only have a handful of stops.

edit- the $3.50 price is only good on weekends/holidays. I assume Ira's $5.50 price is accurate for weekdays.

The 5.50 is the weekday "visitors pass."

I guess a monthly 2 zone bus pass (or a van-pool pass) for $81 would work well.

If you can afford train passes, it's definitely a nicer ride.

thanks- but I looked at the visitor pass and it said this

*Metro's Visitor Pass is not sold on-board vehicles, and is not valid on any other regional transit systems, including Metro operated Sound Transit routes.

so that means I can't use it on the ST 560 right?

Officially, that would be true, as ST 560 is a Metro operated ST route....
But: The same drivers who drive these routes also drive regular Metro routes( sometimes on the same day), and aren't well educated about various policies, so you'd very likely get away with using it.

....but I'm not suggesting that, of course.

FYI- Some employers in the area offer free metro passes. See if your employer offers this.

Oh, and, don't forget to Ride the South Lake Union Trolley while you're here.

Yeah, I recently received one of these from work:

FlexPass Programs (http://transit.metrokc.gov/cs/employer/ctr-fpprograms.html - broken link)

I can use it to ride free on buses, Sounder rail, etc. Pretty cool.

My daughter just moved to Seattle for college. Is there a monthly pass she should get for the bus? It seems to be kind of expensive for her to buy tickets individually. What do you suggest?
