As long as the dollar is bipartisan, so too will be corruption. It really is that simple.

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha! If we only had Republicans in control, the corruption would just go away Dang, I didn't think it was so simple.

Democrats, Republicans, they're all the same in the end...let's just call them Republocrats. They all want to tell you what to do, it's only the specific issues that separate them. Trust NO politician and for heavens sake, actually study the issues and make up your own minds. This message brought to you by another of those danged liberals.

I am very liberal and Seattle is a great fit for my progressive beliefs. I find the population here is on the same page as me when it comes to issues such as the environment, woman's right to choose, gay marraige, stem cell research, Iraq, etc... Seattle is a great place to move if you are liberal and looking to escape from a red state and the close-mindedness there.

However, if you are a conservative and choose to move to Seattle be prepared to be a minority. I work in an office and we found out this old guy in my department voted for McCain. Let's just say the guy has been socially ostracized by the rest of us. He used to eat lunch with us but now he eats alone at his desk. I kind of feel sorry for him sometimes, but he made the choice to out himself as a conservative and now he has to suffer the consequences.

Shame on you. I feel sorry for those who choose to ostracize others for their politics.

I have many friends that are conservative, including my girlfriend.

Nothing wrong with differing on politics.

If you are conservative you tend to live outside of Seattle.

Absolutely! My brother's conservative and I'm liberal but our conversations are actually very stimulating. We always find points of compromise. The one thing we always agree on is to think for ourselves and look at the issues rationally. It's the dialogue that's important. Once we start ostracizing each other the dialogue ends and the partisanship begins. We need more talking, even if it's not what one wants to hear. Sometimes, both sides will find points to build on. But they have to talk.

What about religion? I visit my dad regularly in his rural town in the Deep South, and I get asked constantly about what church I belong to, etc. The landlady for my dad's apartment complex even distributed Christian fundamentalist material along with rent notices.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the Red-Blue divide is more than politics-it influences almost all aspects of many people's lives. It would be cool if this were just a matter of intellectual difference, but it's not. That's why I can appreciate where La Fuerza is coming from.

To the original poster, Seattle is a large city that is dominated by a liberal mindset. Not much of a surprise there. But there are conservatives here, just as there are black people here, even though it doesn't fit in with our image. I think you will be fine with most people in most instances, just like I am when I visit my dad in Georgia. During those few instances where an uncomfortable situation might arise due to political differences, I just try to handle it with a sense of humor and perspective. If you're true to your own principles and treat people decently, then you will be fine here.

Sounds like liberals are very close-minded if they ostracize someone because they vote differently.

I live on Bainbridge and with due respect for those that think that Wa. residents (at least in Seattle) are fairly conservative...they have got to be kidding. I was a life long Democrat turned independent who has voted Republican too feel like 99% of the population is very far left of me. That said, I have found a few islanders who are middle of the roaders Might I add, I am happy here so it can be done.
