I am considering a move away from south Florida. I am in a same sex relationship. I am a teacher and signif other owns a hair salon. We are considering places like San Luis Obispo for the quality of life, small town with culture, beautiful surrounding. However, I keep thinking of cities like San Diego (more urban-warmer weather, sunny like Florida) but then I think of Seattle-which is funky urban walkable, but weather will be shocking to Floridians. Seattle seems more affordable, too.

If I moved to SD, I would eventually like to buy a condo/apartment in an urban-walkable area..same for Seattle. We both have considered doing the same jobs we do here (teaching and hairstylist) but are also considering opening a business...he owns a salon here for 7 years.
SD scares me a bit, because it seems to possibly be too much like South Florida...a lot of similarities...now that may be good for adapting to a new place. I may be wrong on SD, it may not be a lot like South Florida.

Any tips or thoughts appreciated.
I will post this on SD and Calif.

I vote for Seattle.

It will give you a drastic change in climate, demographics, and attitudes. That kind of sounds like what you're after.

Seattle has a huge gay and lesbian presence. I believe you're also correct in assuming that the cost of living, although high compared with some places, will be lower than San Diego.

Good luck with wherever you end up.

Thanks, more later...
