Hi My husband is being relocated to Redmond, Wa. We have absolutely no clue about the area and where to start looking to live. We have two kids- elementary school and high school. We want to live in an area with kids/families, great schools, low crime, close to Redmond for commuting. we will rent for the first year and then hope to know the area enough to buy a home and settle in permanenetly. We are coming from a smaller town with 14 kids on our cul desac so we are looking to live in a family freindly area. any suggestions would be great!!

We moved from CA in 2007.

If I was going to live in Redmond, and I could afford it, I'd live on Education Hill. Excellent schools, diverse family friendly neighborhood.

I currently live in Issaquah, and I love it here, too. Very family friendly with excellent schools. Both places are very pricey, though.

Bellevue also has great schools. You can't really go wrong with the areas around Redmond.

I moved from TX to Redmond (education hill) in 2008. I think Redmond itself covers "area with kids/families, great schools, low crime, close to Redmond for commuting. " My neighbor across the street had two kids when we moved here and just had a third; there's a little boy my son's age down the street, and some older kids sprinkled around. Some older people too, but overall it's quite nice; we live near a park where we sometimes play with other kids and sometimes have it to ourselves.

There are definitely streets within the general "education hill" area that are nicer than others. And there's a lot more homes for rent now than there were when we moved here. If husband is coming to work for MS, then this is a great area to live in; there are some even closer, though, near the Redmond/Bellevue border and closer to Lake Sammamish. If you want to rent a home, you may need to be within a month of your move and then go find out what's available right then; seems to be luck of the draw as to what's open when!

Like Veronika said, it's hard to go wrong around Redmond. I wouldn't want to go too far into the country (Duvall is too far and gets weird), but Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland, Issaquah, Woodinville, if you can find a home for your price, are all good bets.

We live in Sammamish, specifically the Pine Lake area, and love love love it!! You will be fine on the Eastside in general with schools, safety and kids galore.
