many on survival forums say no, cause such armor won't stop hi-v rifle bullets. Well, out of the 300 (or so) million firearms in the US, well under 25% fire hi-v rds and half of those are very undesirable (for shtf) bolt actions or single shots. So the odds are 5-10 to one that you'll be shot (if shtf and you are shot, that is) with a pistol rd, .22, shotgun pellet or slugs, pellet gun, target tipped arrow, or hit by frags from a hi-v rifle rd that hit something else before it hit you. The concealable armor WILL stop such projecticles.

A vest runs about $200 at the gun shows. It might well be 'older", with a risk of it not stopping the rds its' supposed to stop. So lay it on the ground after you buy it and shoot a corner of it with a 9mm ball rd. If the vest stops it (and it will, almost guaranteed) you are good to go. Just don't buy one that's made of Spectra instead of Kevlar. I have an idea for an additional "wrinkle" that makes this a much better idea, but I'm not going to reveal it here.

The vest weighs 3 lbs, but adds to your warmth when worn in cold weather. Like any item of clothing, you can shed it if wearing it is makin you too hot. you've got to keep the Kevlar dry and out of the direct sun, or its efficiency will be compromised.

All it will take to ruin your life (when there's no med care) is some birdshot or a .22 or air gun pellet in your guts, guys. The vest will also save you from knife slashes (albeit not from stabbing moves) and from club blows.

I agree that 10+lb, $1000+ rifle rated armor is not sensible for shtf kit, except for millionaires to bury at their BOL. It's too much weight, bulk and expense, vs the likely benefit.
