Like a big city pimp waiting to pick you up off the ground when times get tough, Walmart was able to establish its first stores in Chicago through guile, perseverance, and a few meaningless reassurances. Smaller stores! $0.50 pay raise! Union-built! These are the meager concessions that led Chicago to sell-out their local retailers.

Thank goodness the people of Chicago will have more choice of retail outlets, a better selection of merchandise, and lower prices. Not many companies are hring nowadays, but Walmart will need a lot of people to run those stores, too.

One thing happens when Walmart opens in new territory: everybody has more money in their pocket.

1) Walmart already has a store in Chicago

2) last I read, the deal was only for Walmart to open ONE store in one specific location they've been fighting over for a while

3) Walmart, if they get the go-ahead, was planning on building more stores in areas typically known as "food deserts"- low income, mostly South Side neighborhoods where regular supermarkets are almost no-existent

4) the unemployment rate in IL is quite bad

I get it, Walmart is the "Big Bad". I'm not a fan of them, but enough w/ the hyperbole. IMHO, this store is needed

If they didn't think lots of people would shop there, I guess they wouldn't be wanting to put in so many stores in the area. Hopefully, the new stores will provide some much needed jobs. 21 seems like a whole bunch of stores though.
